Volunteering with CIRCE was a really fun way to finish off the summer! We got out in the boat every day we could and saw loads of cetaceans. The first day out on the sea was really rough and getting into the observation chair seemed impossible, however you soon got the hang of it! Even when we were in the chair Philippe managed to spot nearly every pod of dolphins of whales first though!

One of my favourite moments was in the bay of Algeciras, when we were surrounded by around 500 common dolphins. Watching them catch flying fish was amazing; although they’re so fast getting pictures was tricky. Every time we went out in the boat we saw Pilot whales and at least one large pod of dolphins. On the days we couldn’t go out we watched some really interesting documentaries and heard all about CIRCE’s work in the Strait of Gibraltar.

Everyone at CIRCE is really friendly and David even tried to teach us the basics of kite surfing. We played volleyball with Caroline and Vanessa too, but didn’t manage to beat them before we left Spain! The Feria was in Tarifa whilst we were volunteering and we managed to get there twice with everyone from CIRCE. It was pretty different to any fairs I’ve ever been to in England! The second night we had to give up at about 6am whilst the others managed to last the whole night, I think the special Feria wine was to blame. I had a great time in Spain and would definitely recommend volunteering with CIRCE!
