Volunteering with CIRCE was a really fun way to finish off the summer! We got out in the boat every day we could and saw loads of cetaceans. The first day out on the sea was really rough and getting into the observation chair seemed impossible, however you soon got the hang of it! Even when we were in the chair Philippe managed to spot nearly every pod of dolphins of whales first though!
One of my favourite moments was in the bay of Algeciras, when we were surrounded by around 500 common dolphins. Watching them catch flying fish was amazing; although they’re so fast getting pictures was tricky.
Every time we went out in the boat we saw Pilot whales and at least one large pod of dolphins. On the days we couldn’t go out we watched some really interesting documentaries and heard all about CIRCE’s work in the Strait of Gibraltar.
